When my TSG Teammanager told me last summer, that I got the chance to design my own helmet, I was super stoked and excited about that. Right away, I started to brainstorm and think about what I’d like to do. Shortly afterwards, I met coincidentally the young and talented designer Eli MichieI (www.elmi-design.com) at a dinner with friends in Munich. We got along perfectly from the start and were on the same wavelength, which to me was very important in this amazing project. Eli is super outgoing, creative and immediately had the sense to what I was looking for and what was going on in my creative-messed up head. Pretty soon, we created the "deer"-idea which pretty much ht the nail right on the head. We both agreed that the stately "deer" should be the focus of the design.
The main color I chose for my Lotus helmet comes with a matte pastel green color way. The deer is the huge illustration from elmi on the side, which she implemented perfectly. There are more illustrative elements on the back of the helmet as well as on the straps and within the TSG front logo.
This is the first time that I got the chance to design a piece of equipment myself. The entire process, from the initial ideas to the moment of holding the finalized helmet in my hands, was really cool for me.
An extremely durable hard-shell helmet, the Lotus only weights 479 grams. Featuring a low fit and cosy, soft neck section it protects the upper cervical vertebras as well as the temples. The helmet’s anatomical shape has been precisely adapted to the natural curves of the head and hugs it like a second safety skin, including a slim low profile and perfect fit.
My helmet is available in fall 2012 for snowboarders and skiers in the trade. I hope you like it and that I see some of you guys riding around with a couple of my helmets next year.
